TMS Therapy is known in the longer version as Transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy, which is an FDA-approved and effective therapy designed to help patients with obsessive compulsive disorder, also known as OCD. Our non-invasive therapy is widely used for a variety of other treatments as well including mood disorders, anxiety and depression.
Our non-invasive and drug-free therapy option is used to help treat patients obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), as well as many other treatment options. Transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy uses magnets to create an electromagnetic field like the ones that were created for MRI scans; however, ours offer a much lighter frequency. During the TMS therapy session, these electromagnetic fields generate mild magnetic pulses. The therapeutic effects help to normalize your brains neurons and the activity levels.
If you have been diagnosed with OCD, there are certain regions in your brain which are overactive. Your brain is able to enter a state called hyperconnectivity with OCD.
During hyperconnectivity, your brain’s level of communication and activity increased in these certain regions, which can cause the intrusive thoughts and compulsive behavior that is experienced with OCD. This then leads to increased anxiety, but also can make controlling your anxiety much harder.
TMS therapy offers positive effects for patients who are dealing with OCD, and can manage it much easier than without.
TMS therapy helps to reduce your symptoms of OCD and can significantly improve your quality of life long-term. OCD can still be a part of your life; however, with TMS therapy, it will become a lot more manageable and less overwhelming than previous. Some patients even note that their OCD symptoms have gone away entirely.
Depending on your condition, some patient’s may need booster OCD therapy treatments to help maintain low levels of OCD symptoms. Booster treatments are usually only ever needed about once a year after you have completed your initial therapy session.
Each patient who will undergo TMS therapy will have different therapy sessions as not everyone has the same level of OCD symptoms or issues. Patients can have up to anywhere of 30 sessions needed, which are split into the course of ten sessions that takes place over a three-to-six-week period, and some patients may need more than one session a day. Again, this is all dependent on your current condition, and the symptoms you are continuously dealing with for your OCD. Our sessions normally do not take any longer than 30 minutes; however, some may need on average of 60 minutes. Call Brain Health Center today to book your consultation appointment, during your appointment we can answer any questions or concerns you may have in regards to our OCD therapy and review with you a customized treatment plan that we believe will work best for you.
At Brain Health Center, we administer repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy over the course of your customized treatment time frame. Many of our patients have reported feeling a slight improvement with their symptoms of OCD after two weeks of treatment. Others do not report any noticeable difference in their symptoms with OCD until about weeks four or five. Each patient will notice the changes at different stages in their treatment, so if you notice it is taking longer to see symptom relief from the TMS therapy compared to someone else, this does not mean that the TMS therapy treatment was ineffective, it means the affects you may feel from the TMS therapy will come later, but you will see the same relief from your OCD symptoms and notice longer lasting results.
